Method 1: compression (start here)
Automated compression removes redundancy and resamples bloated images — routinely a several-fold reduction with no visible change, and a KB target when you need an exact landing. We compress toward your target at the best quality that fits, never make the file larger than the original, and always show the real final size — very image-heavy files may land slightly above tight targets.
Methods 2–3: grayscale and page pruning
Grayscale conversion drops color channels most documents never needed — huge for color scans. Removing unneeded pages (blank scans, irrelevant sections) cuts size linearly: half the pages, half the data. Both stack with compression.
Method 4: fix the source
A file scanned at 1200 DPI in color will always fight you. Rescanning at 200–300 DPI grayscale produces files 10× smaller before compression even starts — the upstream fix when a document will be shared repeatedly.
