Why convert JPG to PNG
PNG is lossless: every save keeps the pixels exactly as they are, while re-saving a JPG degrades it a little each time. If an image is going into an editing workflow, a slide template or a system that only accepts PNG, converting first protects the quality from that point on.
What PNG cannot fix
Converting does not undo compression already baked into the JPG — it prevents further loss, it does not restore detail. And note that JPGs have no transparency to preserve; a JPG converted to PNG has a solid background.
