The transparency question
BMP has no practical transparency — PNG alpha flattens onto a background (white by default) in conversion. Graphics designed on transparency deserve a check that the flattened result reads correctly.

Both formats store pixels exactly, so the conversion is lossless in content — the screenshot's text stays crisp, the graphic's edges stay sharp, and the file gets much larger, as BMP does.
