Why watermark at all
Photos get saved, reposted and screenshot within minutes of publishing. A watermark does not make theft impossible — it makes credit automatic and passing work off as someone else's awkward. For photographers, sellers and creators, that is usually enough.
Placement that survives cropping
A corner watermark is trivial to crop away. Placing the mark over or near the subject — at modest opacity so it does not ruin the shot — is the practical compromise between protection and presentation.
